If you have a sister, you know well the simultaneous blessing and torture of it. We are inextricably woven together, destined for a lifetime of my-ribs-hurt-laughter, belief-confirming conversations, and the ugliest, dirtiest fights ever fought. There is always a delicate balance between the button-pushing and the nurturing. There is always a co-existence of wanting what we think is best for them and learning to accept the ways we are different. This mesmerizing dance is a feat not for the faint of heart, for it demands great courage, strength, and skill.
Sisterly love exists for me in all kinds of connections. It is the older-sister-friend who mentors me through it. It's in witnessing the incomprehensible actions of a neighbour- accepting her even when I don't know how to approve. It's the younger sister who needs guidance, and who gives me the gift of fulfillment as I help nurture her. It's the equal -the twin- who deserves her fair share of respect and admiration. I thank you sisters, for the inspiration and the endless buckets-full of stories that I draw from.
